Taking the VX2000 apart
Not that I would ever attempt this!
VX2000 http://www.camcorderservice.nl/indexvx2000.htm TRV900 http://www.camcorderservice.nl/indextrv900.htm VX1000 http://www.camcorderservice.nl/indexvx1000.htm |
thanks for these links. Those are some amazing pics on there. I believe its the first time I have ever seen these cams taken fully apart.
|
Oh, great!
You can see that the VX2000 (or may be PD-150) has a powerful 32-bit Hitachi SH2 risc processor running at 20+ MHz! Amazing. This is the same processor used in Sega Saturn video game console. I wonder what is its actual role in there. |
Wow, very cool. Perspective well lent. We come to identify with these instruments, but look: thousands of inorganic bits of material, all machined together. Hard to relate to that. Amazing.
|
Oh God, why do these pictures turn me on? ;)
|
And I look at those pictures (nice find by the way) and lament over the obvious lack of any shielding whatsoever.
No wonder the camera is so suceptable to EMI and EMP! |
I wasn't going to say it Joe, but, well, they do sort of make me blush.
|
Those pictures are going to put a positive damper on my curiosity and fasination to pull things appart. At that price, that's a good thing.
Your right Mike! Where is all the shielding? As fas as I know Magnesium Alloy is not rated to stop EMIs! |
I noticed two items:
1) 50 Hz Crotus Binder and a 2) 20 Ohm Fracazoid Modulator No wonder the S/N ratio is high for 1/3" chips. |
These are beautifully shot shadowless pictures - taken by someone who knows his DOF and backgrounds. I only wish the salient parts were identified though, as this would make them more than just pretty pictures.

Wow. What's that VX9000? Anyone ever use/see one? Looks like a lower end sholder cam.
EDIT: It looks as though the VX1 had a marked focus ring. I wonder why they stopped using that design. |
It's amazing the amount of engineering that goes into a camcorder. Sometimes I think it's incredible that they are as reliable as they are (given the number of components that must work together) and affordable as they are. Thanks Tommy

Maybe more of us did! Do you know this is what BBC does if you want to shoot a project for them with aDV camera? They bypass the dreaful Sony preamp and get to make things more linear in the audio stages. That would also be interesting on cameras that do not allow manual audio adjust, in order to bypass the AGC. There's an article on how to modify the TRV900 audio stage. Carlos |
