Night Shooting with NexVG20
Here is what the VG20 looks like night shooting. Just raw footage. I just put a Nikon lens with a Bower adapter bought at BHPhoto. I used a Nikon 35mm F2.0 lens, shooting wide open, except when pointing toward front door. Everything is shot at db 30, shutter speed 1/50. With my f 1.4 50mm I am sure it will be even better.

Re: Night Shooting with NexVG20
Chris, that's most impressive and I'm almost tempted to spring for the VG-20 body. I assume that you meant that the shots were taken with 30 db gain (which I also assume can be adjusted from 0 to 30 db if you have AGC off in manual mode)?

Re: Night Shooting with NexVG20
Yes, I was in manual mode, and I ran at maximum gain, 30db just to see how grain was. I am curious to see how my 50mm F 1.4 will look and may just check it outs on same scene tonight.

Re: Night Shooting with NexVG20
That's a ridiculous improvement on the VG10!! which is unusable at such gain settings, I'm after a 50mm F1.8 E mount lens, at 2 stops minimum faster than the stock 200mm it should indeed produce remarkable low light footage.
Thanks for the files Chris, I'm going to buy the body, regardless of the missing set ups, I'm not too worried. Paul :-) |
Re: Night Shooting with NexVG20
Here is another shot night shoot, using a little faster lens with gain down to 24db.

Re: Night Shooting with NexVG20
I now uploaded the last night shoot to Vimeo using the original file. So the original file is available for download.
I will try to start loading other original files so people can start playing with the footage. Low Light Test of VG 20 - Sony NEX VG20 Film Makers on Vimeo |
