Looking for soft Z7 case: Kata vs Petrol vs CamRade
Greetings Friends
I am looking for a soft bag for my new Z7 - for a variety of reasons a hard case does not work real well for me. it seems like these are the best options: Kata CC-193 vs Petrol PCCB-2N vs CamRade CB Single II I am looking for something snug but with the best protection possible - so size is an issue What are people happy - or unhappy - with many thanks Jamie Jewett |
I have the petrol case and I am very happy with it.

too wide? Pelican?
Thanks Gary
I read a Review at B+H that says: I bought this bag for my Sony HVR-V1U and it has worked out pretty good. It is very durable, and I have no worries about it keeping my camera safe. It is a little on the large size and since I plan on getting a Pelican eventually to protect my camera, I wish I can found a smaller bag. Other than that I like it. does it seem bulky to you? obviously the pelican is not a soft case so that's out What about Portabrace? thanks again Jamie |
No actually I bought the petrol bag for my V1 last year and indeed it was a little large for it, I upgraded to the Z7 this year and it now fits it perfectly.

I'm the happy owner of a Lowepro Dryzone backpack.
http://products.lowepro.com/product/...00,1935,18.htm It's expensive, but it's waterproof and very well done. I can put it on my back without feeling the weight of the complete set in it. (Z7, 4 batteries, charger, mini light, handheld mike, set of HF mikes, tapes, XLR cords, cleaning kit) I had a petrol bag, I would not go back to it. |
Jamie,
The CB-Single II is a little too big for the HVRZ7U The CB-Single I is better suited for the HVRZ7U It is large enough to hold the camcorder and some accessories. A white balance card is included with the bag. Tapeworks sale price for the CB-Single I is $189.00 and they are in stock! I have a petrol case (PWR- HDV) for my Z1 and it is great!
I use it for taking my camera on the plane cause it is legal carry on size which is good. I can also leave it set up in the bag so I can just whip it out and start filming. I have also used this bag for red carpet work cause it is easy to access on the go. It has even been around some sketchy areas filming docos, where you don't want to put your gear down or let it out of your sight. In all a great and really useful bag. It looks like it will fit my new Z7 as well! |
