CF24 is not going to look as good as CF25 PAL. The reason is because CF25 uses a 1/50 shutter speed and is recorded at 50i. To get from 50 to 25 it simply throws out the odd fields and you get a nicely simulated 25 progressive frames.
CF24 uses a 1/60 shutter speed at 60i. To get to 24fps is has to add 3:2 pulldown and there is where the stutter comes in. If you shoot using CF30 you will get the same nice result as your friend with his PAL camera because CF30 uses 1/60 shutter speed at 60i and throws out the odd fields. Unfortunately CF30 doesn’t have the same cadence as CF25 (or real 24p) but it is gorgeous.
If you really want 24p and you want to buy the US FX1, I would either shoot in straight 60i and convert to 24p in software (where you can do more advanced interlacing and pulldown), or shoot CF30 and convert to 24p in software. I would not use CF24 at all.
