16:9 SD DV mode
 

Hello

Does anyone know how the performance of FX1 is on 16:9 SD DV mode?

I also wonder how good cine gamma mode on FX-1 is compare to DVX or XL2.
I hope it is good because it will be very hard to do color corrections to get the film look for HDV footages, since there aren't any software(like Magic Bullet) available for HDV.

I know very few people have hands on experiences with this camcorder, but any information would be very appreciated. Thank you in advance. :-)

Magic Bullet Movie Looks or Magic Bullet for Editors would probably work to color-correct HDV footage (why wouldn't it?)

But prepare for some extreme render times. Already MBforE takes about 30x real time to color-correct standard-def footage; with HDV footage you're talking about 3x or 5x as many pixels, so it'd work but it'd be S L O W ...

Learn to color correct yourself. It's much faster than MB ;)

I don't have Magic Bullet Movie Looks or Magic Bullet for Editors.
I just have the 50 pre set movie look plug ins for my premiere.

Are you sure they are going to work on HDV?
I have feeling they are not since they were made for SD,
like how Magic Bullet Suite has SD version and HD version.

I'm using Sony's Vegas editing software, with the Magic Bullet Movie Looks free plug-in.

I set it to an HD 720p/30 project file, and imported a transport-stream file right from the JVC HD1.

I told it to render out an HD 1280x720 file.

It choked. Came up with an error message saying:
ERROR
Magic Bullet Movie Looks
Resolution Exceeds 1024 x 1024


So, yep -- you've got a point. I guess they've decided to cripple the product so HDV users can't use it.

Maybe they'll announce an affordable upgrade sometime soon.

(oh, and as far as DVXUser.com, thanks for saying so, but I'm just a contributor/moderator over there. Jarred Land is the forum owner and the guy responsible for it being what it is!)

I might be wrong, to quote Radiohead, but I think the DV mode isn't in 16x9, like the HD10 (which is 16x9 in SD and HD).

The chips are 16x9-shaped, and I thought I read somewhere where it would do SD DV in 16:9 and switchable to 4:3...

I sent Magic Bullet technical support an email about Magic Bullet Editors compatibility with HDV and got an email back from them.
and this is the email I got back from them.

Editors is compatible with the HDV formats, in fact they are a perfect
combination.
