Z1 records in 1440 or 1920?

Hi all,

Boy this is confusing, my friend tells me that his Z1 really captures footage a a size of 1920x1080 but the Wiki page states that the frame size for HDV is 1440x1080.

I then come here and find that 1440 is actually when you use the 1.33 PAR but if one switch to a 1:1 PAR the frame size will be at 1920....

In any case my client is looking for true HD, is the Z1 capable of doing that?

If someone can summarize the Z1 capabilities (frame size wise) in a singular paragraph that would be great because as it is right now this whole thing is just so confusing, to me that is ;)

Thanks a million,

Phil

Z1 is HDV, which 1440 x 1080, with a PAR of 1.33. With that PAR, it outputs an image that is equivalent 1920 x 1080, with a 1.0 PAR. It will render to a an HD file in your editor.

"True HD" doesn't have any real, defined meaning - as such it's just become a marketing catch word.

In Europe, the term "HD ready" DID have a defined meaning when applied to screens, they had to fulfil various criteria such as acceptance of certain inputs, and a minimum resolution of 1280x720. It seems to have been extended such that sets are now labelled "HD 720 ready", or "HD 1080 ready", and in the latter case there is an additional requirement for the screen resolution to be 1920x1080.

These definitions are enforceable in law - advertising a 720 res screen as "HD 1080 ready" would be seen as equivalent to labelling a plastic handbag as "real leather".
