Ali, some NLEs had issues downconverting when HD first came along, but by now most of them have fixed all the problems. Please specify what soft you used.

Ali,

My experience has been with software solutions only, downrezing either in Final Cut or in Shake. I haven't given it much thought, but I'd expect that downconvert algorithms are relatively simple (especially compared with upconverting to higher resolutions). Whether the algorithms are implemented in hardware or software should, in theory at least, only affect the speed at which they can execute.
