Hi all, could someone tell me the difference between SONY HVR-V1E and the Sony HVR V1P ..

The E stands for Europe and the P usually stands for Pacific area.
They are the same.

I think it has to do with warranty so that you as an european won´t buy a grey imported cheaper Pacific one, and try to get some European warranty if it brakes.

Hello, HVR-V1E and HVR-V1P are not the same.
This cameras are not the Z1. With the V1 you can not switch between PAL and NTSC record

That's fine, but isn't Lee just comparing two PAL camcorders to each other. It seems he isn't so concerned with the NTSC/PAL switching capabilities of the Z1U.

The letters at the end stands for regions and they are both PAL
Australia for instance has PAL and is in the Pacific region.

The thing is, im going to buy one and found two prices . They look the same camera , but the letter at the end is different .

The V1P is cheaper then the V1E and I think that the P is a grey market import.
You might/will have problems with the warranty.

yes but the cheapest price you mentioned is about 5100$ and B&H is selling the P for 4,499.95.....

Isn't it the case that the E version come with the 2-year Sony Silver Service warranty and the P and other versions don't? Might account for the price discrepency between the UK and USA versions.

I got mine from H Preston for around £2700. Videogear (UK sponsor of this site) have it for around £2900 incl. VAT.

Things do tend to be more expensive over here. I didn't want to take the risk of a grey import (P version from Purely Gadgets, for example) and have no aftersales support.

Cheers everyone for the info, i also seen on the site the p you only get 18 months and the rest 2 years. Think i will pay the little more for piece of mind .
