PMW 350 Firewire & Matt box
I am a very new PMW 350 owner and I have, at least for the time being, two questions:
1. I have perused the poorly written and somewhat incomplete user manual and could not find any reference to the firewire port that is clearly present on the back of the 350 ... what is its intended purpose, given that the manual describes use of the USB port for offloading files? 2. Is there a rod support device available for the 350 that can be used for supporting a matt box other than the one that seems to come with the Chrosziel? Thank you in advance. |
Ron
The i.Link output of the camera is for HDV or SD output. The camera can be setup to output either HDV or SD for monitoring or external capture. It will not stream out full quality 35Mbps (HQ mode) video, but HDV is great for web streaming. Go to the Operation -> Input/Output menu to turn it on. There are two light weight support adapters that we recommend for the PMW350. The Chrosziel 401-50 Lightweight Support (Lightweight Support for Sony Cameras :: Broadcast, Cinema Supports :: Support Rods :: Follow Focus & Bracketry :: Lens Components :: Equipment Sales :: Abel Cine Tech) , or the Zacuto Zephr (Zacuto Zephyr :: SD & HD Camera Accessories :: Camera Accessories :: Equipment Sales :: Abel Cine Tech). I received 2 PMW 350's today (very exited!!), and had it order with 2 vocas mattebox systems inc. rod support. Connects perfectly with the stock lens. See this iPhone pic:

Thank you for the photo.
I have a Cavision Matt Box and I would like to make use of it. How does the rod assembly attach to the camera base? Did it require the removal of the V wedge from the 350? And good luck with the cameras. I received mine on Tuesday and am still trying to decipher the less than adequate manual. And although I am reasonably familiar with the various functions, figuring out where they can be accessed is the issue, but I'll get there. |

As for the above two supports, am I correct in assuming that the 350's "V" wedge must be removed and then re-attached to the support plate? Thank you in advance. |
Yes, 4 screws to remove and re-use them to place the bars support. Easy as that..

Thank you.
Am I correct in assuming that the "V" wedge gets reattached to the bottom of the bar support or does it (i.e. Zacuto) have its own? |
