PDW-700 video review
Fat ugly bloke ad-libbing and repeating the same words again and again and occasionally telling you something useful.
At least you get to look at it!! http://www.vimeo.com/1084005 |
Thanks Phil, not a lot of detail there but a start at least!
You say it's all the camera anyone could want, so why would anyone choose to buy a Sony 750/900 or Panasonic 3000/3700 etc., are we talking just big screen use for these cameras? Or do you reckon the PDW700 will be good enough for that too? The optical disc thing does seem like a happy medium (no pun intended) between tape and tapeless. Then with the possibility of a solid state add on, and the fact that it's full raster 1920x1080, PLUS it'll do 720/60P, it really does seem to tick ALL the boxes. As long as the image quality is right up there, no questions asked, with HDCam, Varicam etc. Steve |
Very well done Phil.

More seriously, very good roundup, but I must pick up on the point Steve made about the SxS add-on. Solid state versus disc has been an endless debate, but one of the biggest pluses about the 700 must be that it offers BOTH. Also worth mentioning that the wireless mic slot accepts the new digital system. |
Can you use the usb port to dump footage to your pc or do you still need to use firewire?

For those who are interested, here is Sony's XDCAM HD422 family brochure. It includes the PDW-700, PDW-HD1500 and PDW-U1.
