Re: A7s or GH4 - which for you?
Yes, I have the A7s set up to output 4k.
The Odyssey 7Q+ has the processing power to DownRes and more features are still being added, most of which are free upgrades. The improvement over internal recording was night to day with the A7s, not so easy to see with the GH4. Perhaps the GH4 would require a higher bit rate or post processing of the recorded 4k Video? |

Both are great cameras, and the GH4 is a step ahead in a lot of ways save for wide angle and noise levels, both due to the m4/3 sensor size. |

This is a cropped frame grab from the original A7s to 7Q+ DownRes/ProRes LT MOV file.
No post processing as that is not my thing. I always try to get it in-camera. |
Re: A7s or GH4 - which for you?
I don't find frame grabs very informative, as there is a lot going on with the motion of video that can make a huge difference.
I'm more interested in seeing a comparison between 4K->1080 inside the Odyssey vs 4K->1080 within something like After Effects. There's a definite difference that I've seen with the GH4 in native 1080 mode vs 4K->1080 out of the HDMI, so I'm curious to know how well of a job the Odyssey does over that. |
Re: A7s or GH4 - which for you?
Sorry Gary
But I have neither the time nor inclination to do this Post Process comparison. Perhaps someone else can? And my GH4 has pretty much become dedicated to a light weight TriPod without external Monitor/Recorder. This gives me maximum portability for outdoor events. I agree on the frame grabs having little use except when comparing two or more of them, especially not knowing what the uploading does to it or how it is displayed on your computer. The same file displayed directly looks better to me on my computer than what I see online. |
