I left you a comment. Stunning imagery.
It seemed like there were quite a few of these entries with the stranded thing going on and lots of people chugging ketchup. With that said though, this is by far better than any of those. You are competition. |
James,
Definitely a good excuse for not getting an entry in for the DVC9. Nice work. However, if you had added about four or five seconds of the box still floating in the air on it's chute, I think that that would have made it even better. But then of course it would have been a 35 second spot! ;') Nice job! |
As a piece of filmmaking - loved it. As an ad - not sure. When it ended the first thing I thought was "gross" which is perhaps not inspiring me to buy. But even gross is memorable and that's 2/3 of the challenge of advertising, so good job.
I agree with Daniel that if you could have found a second or three to trim from somewhere to add in the floating parachute that would have been nice. But I don't know what seconds I would lose for it. Smile, Kris |
Ah, the floating parachute.
I had that shot in my storyboard. Yes, I actually tried that. I had my friend drop it out of his airplane. I was on the radio talking with him about where to drop it, and I had him drop it too far away, so it was very hard to see in the shot. I added some parachute fabric moving over the camera lens in a different edit, but Youtube was having issues and I didn't know if my entry would make it in, so I left my original edit in. Thanks for the comments, I appreciate them. Jim |

Warning: The file is over 1GB! It's in 720p25 with the video slowed down from an NTSC source. Worked out pretty well. The only times I didn't slow down were when I needed to keep the audio and once when I forgot to slow down one clip. This is a single person production. I edited and shot the video. |
All I know is the acting was top notch!
I loved it jim! |

Anyone that is interested you can see some of my work at my website at:
www.gforcevideo.com click on demos to watch some of them. Mostly local TV commercials but a couple other random things as well. I'm going to try to get some other stuff up soon but I have to do it around the paying work..... |
Crow Girl
Here's a link to a trailer of the little film I'm working on right now..

Very interesting! I think I would have to see more before commenting much. What kind of movie is it going to be?
Is it a horror? Is it a comedy/horror? Either way, I like some of the shots and effects. Keep it up. Cheers, Mike |
You have some really nice work there. I really like your pacing and flow. Good job!
|
It's a dark saga. Neither horror or comedy though both horrific and funny at times if we succeed. All shot in front of blue screen that's being replaced with some sort of a cartoonish/twisted world.
|
Very cool! Can't wait to see more.
Keep us posted. Mike |
Ryan: about to shoot my own full-length doco, and I love the subject. Only thing is that I'd suggest jury rigging a stabilizer. They can be as simple as a barbell weight welded to the end of a monopod. I don't see you doing alot of tripod shots, so that's probably what your best bet is.
|
Wow. There are some interesting segments in there, like the kids at 2:20. They need parental supervision or something.
2- As far as stabilizers go, IMO you don't need one. It's fine if the camera is a little wobbly... for the subject matter you are shooting, it would be bad if the camera were steady all the time. However, try to hold the camera steady and lay off on zooming in/out... it is distracting and unnecessary IMO. Establishing shots you might want to shoot with a tripod. You have the right equipment for this project. You probably don't want to use a more expensive camera (especially if it gets stolen). 3- I'm not really a fan of the editing, it didn't really tell a story. There are probably many many stories in your footage that you can tease out. Pick one and run with it. |
