A Tilt-Shift Video

I decided to give tilt-shift a try since it looked like a lot of fun to do - and fun it was indeed! The video I made is called 'Herring Run, 2009' and it can be seen here:

That's very effective. What filter package/software did you use for this?

Paul Whittington April 2nd, 2009 12:46 AM

Thanks guys...

Dennis: I used Photoshop to create the tilt-shift effect.

Did you export as frames I assume, apply effect etc?

Paul Whittington April 2nd, 2009 08:00 PM

David:
Cool find! Yes, that tutorial is pretty close to how I did it, just with video instead. Yeah, it does take a while to do but fortunately not a long as I initially thought it would.

Dennis:
Actually I use Photoshop Extended which allows you to import video files, thank goodness :)

David Mathew Bonner April 3rd, 2009 12:57 PM

Paul,
I checked out more of your videos and I am really impressed with your work! You have a very imaginative imagination I imagine :) and you have stirred up some old passion of mine to explore my own limits of thinking and creating.

thx

Another way to achieve this look is by use of after effects, see below link how to:

that was a great video man, thanks for sharing.

Beautiful, haunting, evocative, and creative work. The sound f/x and music selection are top notch too.

Wow, I have never seen anything like this effect before, it truly tricked me at first. I thought it was video footage that then suddenly cut to some kind of miniature set that you created from the video as a guide that you then blended in at the right moment to match the video. Very nice, you fooled me. I would love to see what other examples this effect can be used in. Thanks for posting.

Dave Gosley April 26th, 2009 05:54 AM

Who made you God? - Really a great piece of work - hope I will be able to do something like it one day.

Thanks very much guys

Dylan: Head to a site like Vimeo and search 'tiltshift' - you'll find many examples there much better than mine, some so good they'll blow your mind!

I just bought a Canon Powershot S95 and it actually has this effect as a built in function!

I will definitely try and get more creative with my shots having watched your video!

You've got some very good material on your site. Well done.
