Simple LANC question.

Hello everybody,

I am under the impression that a zoom controller, regardless of the brand, can only match the maximum and minimum zoom speeds of your camcorder. Is this true? What would like is a zoom controler that will give me a slower zoom on my PD170, something comparable to what the XL1s can do.

Thanks
Patrick

That's true. Varizoom's website claims however that not all brands of controllers can access the camera's minimum speed but their can. I really don't know if this is true or just marketing hype.

However I got a Varizoom Pro-L specifically because I wanted to do the slowest possible zoom on my PDX-10 and VX-2000. It has a dial where you preset the speed, and then when you press the rocker switch it runs at that speed. It works fine, however there is still a little "bump" when you begin a zoom at the camera's slowest speed. Evidently that has to do with the camera design and can't be avoided.
