DVX100 to PD170?

Glen,

After you sold your DVX100 did you get a PD170 like you mentioned?

If so, how about an update on what you think of it, compared to the DVX you sold.

I've got no use for 24p, so I'm not willing to pay the premium for it with the DVX (wish I had bought a DVC80, but can't find one now). So while I can afford a GL2, I can stretch and get a PD170 if its really that much better. But I need to hear from someone how good the PD170 really is.

Beachtek dxa-6 for sale

Used, works great, good condition. $180 shipped.

Glen Elliott July 16th, 2004 09:00 PM

Yep- I sold it and got a PD-170...just recently picked up a 2nd cam, a VX2100 to match my PD-170 footage. Needless to say it was the best decision I ever made. If you don't need 24p then DEFINITLY go with a 170.

Here's some posts regarding my thoughts:

My first impressions of PD-170:

I appreciate the reply and useful links.

Can't wait to see the rest of your film, it looks very well done. And all of it was filmed on the PD-170?

What kind of tripod did you use? It looked like you may have used a dolly on one shot instead of panning; yes?

Again, I appreciate the opinions, the raw data only tells you so much.

i'll take a stab:

Ken Tanaka July 17th, 2004 01:08 AM

No, Don's looking for the 3x Wide lens for the XL platform. It's a different beast.

Yes it was all on a PD-170. That shot your referring to- coming out from behind the tree- that was hand-held.
Good luck on your decision whatever it may be.
