Fantastic, Lorinda!!!

So I'm trying to understand the setup...the camera can be powered off the power supply, but it will output video without requiring the deck (are the connectors on the camera or on the power supply--I vaguely remember that sort of thing from those days). Mini output for video, that's odd for back then...

I'd love a picture of it if that's at all possible, and of course to know if it works or not. Electronics have a way of failing if they lie dormant for too many years. If a photo is out of the question, perhaps you can find a model number on it and maybe I can look it up on the web to get a sense of what we are looking at. If I remember correctly, Magnavox models were essentially the same as Panasonics, both being owned by Matsushita.

Please let me know if this is a happening thing, I'd be looking to ship it as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your generosity! And just think, when the movie comes out in the theatres (yup, it's got distribution in place), you can tell people "that was my old video camera!!"

Lorinda Norton November 4th, 2004 10:33 PM

Ha! You're right--that would be fun!! But, *ahem* you'd have to tell me the name of the movie. :)

I'll dust it off a little and email a pictures to you. It powered up just fine; the camera part works. I just couldn't run it through a tv to a vcr to make sure that part worked.

If the "smearing" to which you referred means an ugly horizontal line upon even the slowest of pans, you'll get it! Also, I can't tell if it's in the viewfinder or the lens just yet (sorry, I had to put it down to do other things) but there's some junk in the picture. I'll check that out when I clean it up in a few minutes.

There's a dc out that runs to the camera. Bundled with it into one cable are the video and L/R audio cables that, in the old days, we used to plug into a VCR in order to record. So to answer your question definitively, the connectors are on the power supply side of the cable.

Enough talking--I'll get busy taking some pictures. Look for them in your email.

Hope this works!!!

Charles Papert November 4th, 2004 10:50 PM

groovy!

Lorinda Norton November 4th, 2004 11:40 PM

Did you get the photos?

Believe it or not, we have a working camera. Once I overcame some serious operator stupidity I got the thing to record!

What a picture! But it's just as I remember, so I think you're in business.

John Sandel November 5th, 2004 12:31 AM

Stephen, the photos are clear and help in judging your rig. Some info would help me know what to offer.

1. When did you buy the rig? I ask because (as you probably know) John Gardner's made some mods to his basic rig in the past few months.

2. Has the rig been used on any actual shoots (i.e., as opposed to backyard tests & walks round the apartment)? I ask because you know the abuse only a working shoot can inflict.

3. Have you got the case John sells with these rigs? Is it included in the sale?

Charles Papert November 5th, 2004 12:49 AM

Yup, thanks, sent you an email, we can continue off-board.

Stephen Birdsong November 5th, 2004 04:24 AM

I've owned the rig for about 1.5 years. The case is the same that comes with the unit. It is in very good condition, I have used in on sets, but damage is minimal (virtually non-existant), as I said it has about 10 hours of use on it. It is not the most current version that magiqcam sells.

Minolta A2 8mp digital camera for sale in Canada

I'll probably be putting my Minolta A2 up for sale by the end of this month so I can buy a Canon 20d. I'm just making a broad inquiry to see if anyone is interested in it.
I love it as a camera, but I need the versitility of interchagable lenses beyond the 28-200mm that is on the A2.

Includes battery/vertical grip, two extra batteries, UV/ND and Polarizer filters.

Probably going to want $1300cdn for it. It's mint+, still under warrenty, and only lightly used. Have all original packing materials, and store reciept.
