Self powered / portable light?
Any recommendations for a self powered portable light?
Notes: I'd like the flexibility to be able to light characters or small portions of a scene when all I have is available lighting - especially in low light. Preferably something that can be effectively bounced, diffused, and/or or focused. |
There are many instruments that are designed to be powered by a 12v battery...and that's essentially what you seek. Search around in here for some recommendations. For example, I use a Lowel i-Light with an NRG battery belt. It can be camera-mounted, hand-held or stand mounted. It also features a nice set of barn doors (extra) and a dichroic filter (also extra) will conveniently convert the lamp to daylight K. It's an excellent portable and relatively economical solution.
But there are many such alternatives. |
Thanks, the i-light was just exactly what I was looking for.
Any pros/cons going with the XLR, Anton Bauer, or regular version? Or are those connections something I can just add later? Notes: I'm mainly going to have the light on a stand or occasionally hand held. No on-camera lighting. |
I use the XLR connection which mates to my NRG batteries. If you're not going to use the light on-camera and/or with A-B batteries there's no reason to go that route. The next generally handy connection would be the cigarette lighter adapter.
