Swit s-2000 on-camera light.
 

Last week i bought a Swit S-2000 on-camera light.
I looked for reviews on this light but couldn't find any so thought i'd share my experiences on it.

Excellent light, easily lit up the whole disco at a wedding reception.
I never needed full power, only about a 3rd power.
The light will throw a spot, or flood with the diffuser, flood being wide enough for the EX1.
The light colour is exactly 5600k, or 3200k with the supplied filter, (i did a white balance on a plain white wall to confirm), even spread of light, no dark spots.
Stepless dimming, via a turning of a knob.
It's tiny, weighs next to nothing,seems well built and takes power from a D-tap, i also bought the Swit battery for the EX1, which has a D-tap, together the battery and light make an excellent combination.

£195 for the light, £115 for the battery.

I've been contemplating the S-2000, nice to see a user review. One question: can the light be powered from the Swit battery if both are off the camera? From the specs I can't tell if the battery's D-tap has it's own closed circuit or not.

Yes you can power the light from the battery when the battery is on or off the camera.
Like a stand alone light you mean ? If so then yes.

The light itself is about the size of half a redbull can.

A good (but small) off-camera light that works from the same batteries is what I was after. I often use Swit batteries in rental packages, they work as well as the Sony's and cost a lot less.

I also use this light together with the adapter (swit 2010) for a Sony battery, I left it on at full power once for 2 straight hours and it was still no loss in light. I even think it can do 3 hours plus easily on a single npf970 sony battery.
The battery adapter you have to attach to your camera which is a bit problematic as you can only attach it to the handle so it's more difficult to hold your camera when not in use. It doesn't wheigh that much but combined with the heavy sony battery you feel the extra weight after some time with handycam type camera's.
I also thought these led lights didn't get hot but once it's on the front stays cool but the body gets really hot.
In general I am very satisfied with it, it was the cheapest led I could find and in performs more then well.
