Is there a menu & setting that allows the camera's menu to overlay the image on an SDI-connected portable monitor?

Use the "SDI OUT CHARACTER" switch.

And in menu 7: "Display Set-up" you can also select all / partial or off!

the DISP/MODE CHK button on the side of the camera also controls some of the display modes for the built in screen and video out.
