GH4 is coming with 4K!
Proof: http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/07/p...ess-gh-camera/
They're saying Late February for under $2000. |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
hmm...no source...
|
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
its just a mockup at the moment, but it's a showing by panasonic to say that they are in fact working on a gh'4k'
|
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
I can photoshop 4K onto a compact body as well and claim Sony's coming out with the SONY NEX-4K
I'll believe it when I hear/see more news about it. |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Here is the source:
http://www.smallcamerabigpicture.com...live-coverage/ It's a camera review blog that is attending CES. Nothing corroborating in the text so far, unfortunately, so use your own judgement when evaluating the reality of the product. |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Confirmation from Engadget: Panasonic's next GH mirrorless camera will record 4K video, arrive late February for under $2,000
The claim is to ship in February, which would be aggressive. Price to be $2k (w/o lens, one presumes), also aggressive. This will certain eat up memory cards... |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
I want to believe the source, but the photos from Engadget seem suspect. For one, the 4K and SDXC labels look photoshopped, as evidenced by the gray box around each label. The GH3 doesn't have those. Also, every other aspect about the camera looks identical to the GH3. I can't imagine it would look the same.

Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
I believe it, but the camera body is currently a GH3 body with those logos slapped on. It is under a glass box because it's a prototype. It's not even a pre-production model yet.
I like the prospect of UHS-III cards, and that would mean 256GB cards would be coming soon to support the extremely high bitrates. Late February is a tight timeframe, so if they do stick with the GH3 body, but advance it to the GH4, it's actually kind of fine by me. |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
That's crazy ...
Looks like 2014 is the year they push 4K out to us aggressively. I'll be resisting temptation to upgrade to 4K for atleast 3 years. |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
And it fits in my Swedish chameleon cage - great :)

Last bit of corroboration from DPReview. Something is on display at the Panasonic booth. CES 2014: Panasonic Stand Report: Digital Photography Review

Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Just because it's a GH3 with a 4K badge on it doesn't mean it's not "real".
It's the same thing Canon did at the Cinema EOS rollout - they slapped a "Cinema EOS" badge on a !D X and put it in a glass case: http://www.filmanddigitaltimes.com/w...0_IMG_9310.jpg The camera was in the product pipeline - but not quite ready for hands-on. |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Dear Panasonic - time to shift to XQD memorycards please. Then you can do anything you want when you are not really limited to data speed on the memory card ,
|
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Met with my Panasonic Rep today, they are expecting a mid march delivery on this camera.

UHS-III sounds promising though. |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Jack - I know. Panasonic and Sony work together with Oled panels so why not XQD too ;)

Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
On the heels of that rumor, Kingston has announced UHS-3 cards capable of recording nearly that fast: Kingston Digital Introduces SDHC/SDXC UHS-I Speed Class 3 (U3) Memory Cards | techPowerUp
But 4:2:2 10bit 4K (at even 30p) would be pretty good. It also may be that they're sticking to the 16MP sensor in the GH3, so we'll have very similar sensitivity figures. |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
I feel like I am missing something here. In the link above they say this below, and my SanDisc Extreme Pro cards in the link below that at B&H are already doing 95mbs read and 90 write. What has changed or improved that we are talking about these new Kingston cards?
"The SD Association's latest specification, UHS-I U3 (Ultra High-Speed Bus, Speed Class 3), guarantees performance of at least 30 MB/s read and write, enough bandwidth to record and playback 4K video without interruption. Kingston's SDHC/SDXC UHS-I Speed Class 3 card provides speeds of 90 MB/s read and 80 MB/s write, which is up to 9x faster (read) and up to 8x faster (write) than standard Class 10 SD cards. The faster speeds ensure the best video and photo integrity by reducing stutter as well as faster PC upload time especially when using USB 3.0 card readers." I have 1 32gb and 3 64gb cards of these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/824140-REG/SanDisk_SDSDXPA_032G_A75_Extreme_Pro_32_GB.html |
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
1 Attachment(s)
The micro P2 cards have an extra row of contacts. I would suppose this has something to do with recording at the higher bitrate.
|
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Yes, just checked and mine don't. But the "specs" for read and write are just as high or higher than that one above. Where or how does the extra row of contacts give its advantage?
|
Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Well, just guessing at this point but I would think that your card would work up to 1080p. The write speed at 4k with the micro P2 card might have some type of data verification or redundancy process at work using the other row.

Re: GH4 is coming with 4K!
Got it thanks. Guess we'll be hearing more.
Look at the specs on this 256GB compact flash card.
