Mic mount on HC-X1500 handle too far forward.
I am using am Audio Tecnica shotgun, very similar to the NTG1. When using the dead cat, the fur is visible in the top rigtht of the frame. The dead cat is pushed back as far as possible. I don't want to use the hot shoe as this is often holding a light. Has anyone found a solution to this problem apart from buying a new, shorter shotgun?

Re: Mic mount on HC-X1500 handle too far forward.
How much of the dead cat appears in the frame Syd?
If it’s not much, you might be able to carefully trim it off while watching the picture. Or tape it up, or buy a smaller dead cat. Cheers. |

It's probably too much showing to alter the dead cat. I can't get a smaller one because it would not cover the side slots of the mic.

Re: Mic mount on HC-X1500 handle too far forward.
I had a similar problem with a GoPro when mounting a Rode Videomicro and made a mount extender out of bought parts to move the fur out of frame. The GoPro is in a frame that has a cold shoe, so it is a cold shoe to cold shoe extension. Maybe you could find some bits to do something similar, shotgun mount to shotgun mount?
Or, get a double shoe adaptor and go that route. I too have the HC-X1500, but without the handle. I like it very much. |

Would one of these move the mic far enough back to do the job?
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/407104-REG/Rycote_037306_Medium_Hole_Softie_Mount.html/overview/BI/2855/KBID/3801 The Rycote web site gives a view of it in use here: https://rycote.com/microphone-windsh...-shock-mounts/ If the Dummy Mic Stub is too large for your mic holder you may be able to "bodge" a similar arrangement using a cheap mic holder and a home made DMS. Just a thought. Regards, CS |

Been using a cold shoe adapter on the cam hot shoe with a Røde SVM mic and a Rycote windscreen. The adapter raised the mic up almost an inch and back slightly so the windshield just misses the frame.
With the 'clamps' tightened it is solid. Have used this setup for several years. Tried to upload a small 3MG jpg of it but the system refused it. |

You could try this with a longer microphone obviously. it can go highter if needed. I jut made a threaded stud for one end.
