Does the HDMI port export 4K video, so it can be monitored on a 4K monitor?
Can you monitor the video on an HD monitor, even if you're shooting in 4K?

If you are signed into Vimeo you can download a 1gb copy of the video. This was shot UHD 60 and the bottle neck on the camera to the card is 150mb/sec.

Hi Glen, Yes the output og the HDMI has the following menu options. 2160p, 1080p, 1080, 720p, downconvert & auto.

Saw Paulo's sample file. I expected noise and I did see noise when viewing 1:1. About the level of a Z1U is what I'm seeing. But the critical thing is no fixed pattern noise in the highlights. (which was the AX1 and Z100's downfall)

The 18 megapixel sensor the Pannys have vs the 20 megapixel sensor the Sonys have may have played a slight advantage. Of course nothing beats 1''. Or maybe a budget Varicam and the return of the AF100 in 4K?

According to the specs the HC X1000 has 18.47 megapixel and the AX1 approximately 18.9 megapixel. Effective video pixels for both are approximately 8.3 megapixels as one would expect. The lenses are different so the crop may be different too. I also do not see any fixed pattern noise on my AX1. Weakness for me is low light performance and from the specs is about the same for both too. Is it actually the same sensor ?

The new consumer Panasonic seems to be using the same sensor. Same gross pixel count. The fact the HC-X1000 uses a different pixel count means the AX1, Z100, AX33, WV870 and WV970 may all share the same sensor. The Xperia Z1 probably has the same sensor.

In the AX1 samples I've seen, all have had non-random noise in the levels space just before the highlights. X1000 samples have true random noise as opposed to fixed pattern noise probably found in a cheaply mass-produced sensor that all the new consumer 4K cams (Except the AX100) are using.

My HX30V also has the same sensor I am sure. But with the introduction of the HX50V Sony moved to a 20.4 Megapixel sensor and this may be what is used in some of the new cameras and phones. As with all semi production there is a manufacturing selection process for performance that one should note.

They may be hiding the true gross pixel count. It could be the same sensor but then generalized to say it can take 20.4 megapixel photos. It is going to be rare to expect true gross pixel counts on consumer hardware.

But the bottom line, the Panasonic X1000 is very likely using a different sensor to it's own benefit. Z1U levels of noise are somewhat acceptable if you want to be on the bleeding edge of 4K60p recording.

Is the X1000 HDMI 2.0 compatible though? Internally it can record 4k60p, but can it give uncompressed out at that rate?

I just watched it on my 2k monitor and it looked very good to me!

I don't mind that you criticize the X1000, but let's try and be fair and please get "Hands On" first.
I just got mine and am blown away with the Videos made in good light.

However, today the acid test will be in poor indoor light that my GH4 can barely handle.
If it works good without extra lighting (not allowed) I will keep it.
Otherwise back it goes because this will be 95% of it's use.
Then I will have to get an A7s or wait for the GH5 or a version of this camcorder with bigger sensor.
Or, maybe Panasonic will come out with a version of this CamCorder with a 4/3 sensor and interchangeable lens?

How did it perform in low light compared to the GH4, i find the GH4 pretty poor in low light.

In case the Panny x1000 is better do let us know the out come of your tests.

I am currently using the GH4 to VideoGraph my bowling because it is more portable, easier to use, and seems to be slightly better in that low light.

For the Church Service, I use the HC-X1000 because I have "Hands On" with more control.
It is mounted on a much heavier TriPod and Head, The leg has a 7" MustHD Monitor that is zoomed in for better manual focus and other adjustments. I can rotate the camera and zoom in on anyone speaking without leaving my seat near the front center of the room. It handles someone standing or sitting in front of a window pretty well with spot metering/focus.

Basically the HC-X1000 is a lot more fun to shoot with and the GH4 allows you to have more fun while it records by itself. I am not saying they cannot be used effectively for both.
