Dykinga
What am I going to do with you, Leigh!? I don't check the forum for a day, and then when I do I get flooded with images! haha!
but no, seriously, you do a good job. Keep it up. I really liked how well you did the DOF in this one. It looks really nice. Have you ever heard of a man named Jack Dykinga? He is titled the "Master of Light", In the August issue of "outdoor photographer". The way that he takes his photographs is incredible! He has a few books out, I thought maybe you would like to check them out and see if they are any good, or interesting to you at all. Anyways. Best of luck! ~Gabriel~ |
Hi Gabriel,
Thanks The camera was very closed to the flower and was shot around 6pm sunset time in the picture you mentioned. I did not want just the flower in the picture which was very boring. The sad thing about this picture is there is no water drop on the flower and the focus to the flower is not so good. I think that focus issue was related to I handheld the camera and I really wish I had a mini tripod. The picture I really like to show around is this one http://www.smootharm.com/picture/nfp...2/IMGA1371.jpg Regarding books, I am reading The Art of Photography: An Approach to Personal Expression I just finished around 10% of the book in two months. This is a great book. The book tells you about the holly spirit about photography.;-) I wish I had this book before I bought any camera, but sad thing is it was too late. Regards Leigh Quote:

Hi Gabriel,
I love to print my images, but no, I did not print any of my images since I own my gs400 minidv camera. I bought the book second hand for around US$50 including shipping which is really nice. I was terrified by that price I saw on amazon. The main reason for the book so dear I guess is to get next release and next release seems not coming. The true amazing thing about the book is it did not talk anything about camera ;-) The most important thing I learned from this book so far is what is the definition of composition. ;-) Regards Leigh Quote:

Nice stuff Leigh. Its been awhile since I have posted here, so I thought I would.
I like the bird stuff that you have. They really caught my eyes. Thanks! ~Gabriel~ |
Hi Gabriel,
Thanks ;-) Have you bought your camera? Regards Leigh Quote:

Those are all very good!!!! Always nice to see your work.

Leigh, did you happen to notice the Brevis 35 adapter threads. The creator of that wonderful adapter just happens to be a GS400 user/owner too and does most of his test footage with it. The footage is absolutley amazing with the depth of field and cinematic presence. He uses a lot of FD Canon Lenses and recently Used actual "cinema lenses" and the footage is just incredible. Check out his website and message board for the Brevis adapter (if you haven't already) and look for these test footage postings. Most if not all is raw footage and is just amazing!!!!

Thanks ;-) Regards Leigh |
Here is some of my limited experience with gs400 now.
Each time I took a photo, it cost me several seconds to wait to take another photo and I hate that. That means I lost opportunity to take a nice image and I only have one change to get the right photo. Flash only works with 1/500 seconds or longer. I really wish it works with 1/2000 seconds. Congratulations Leigh! Those are some more wonderful shots by you! Thanks for sharing! I have been doing some photography myself lately. Its really quite fun. :D
~Gabriel~ PS: I love that burger King. I have never seen one like that here. |
Hi Gabriel,
Thanks Nice to hearing from you. It is always fun to learn a new technique. I was learning DRI and apply what I learned from that article to this image I would say that I am not happy about this image, but anyway this is the first time(like a virgin ;-) ), I spent around an hour shooting around 12 photos with fstop f3.4 exposure time 1/2 seconds to 1/500 seconds and editing. I am sure next time I will get better ;-) I think DRI will be great for still subjects, not moving subject. That is pretty sad. Anyway this is one step further to overcome digital camera's shortage to simulate what our eyes see. Regards Leigh Quote:

Due to the camera recycle number from 1 to 9999, I post an old image file link. Sorry about that.

Alway nice to see more of your work......The one with the seagulls and swing set in the background really seems to pop right out of my screen. It almost looks 3-D. Nice effect.
Seasons Greetings & Happy Holidays |

Thanks for the praise Sadly I did not take photos as I wished for the last 14 days holiday. I was full time watching movies at home day and night and hope to learn from the movies. But 14 days simply is not enough. I guess 14 years full time watching movies might be good. ;-) Regards Leigh |
haha, You know what, that just might work! haha.
Good to hear it. Did you ever finish that Photography book you talked about a while back? ~Gabriel |
Hi Gabriel,
I read most chapters of the book except some technique related to dark room for film. I learned several issues since I start to learn art. 1 Feel from heart 2 There is no rule. Do whatever you wish/like. 3 Have a topic in the art. 4 Have objects in the art have relationship 5 Remove everything irrelevant to the topic in the art 6 Include everything related to the topic 7 Light is very important 8 Practise 9 Don't worry about artifical, do whatever suit you i.e. photoshop the photo, remove dust, add color, that is what I call express myself ;-) 10 Abstract will make your art looks superior 11 Anyone can be artist as long as he/she has enthusiasm plus hard working or talent. Enthusiasm is a must. 12 Post your art on internet for people free viewing, forget about making money at initial stage. Thanks people for their praise/critiques ;-) 13 Simple is wonderful Art is about express yourself. Apply to everything including photography. Regards Leigh |
Wow, thanks Leigh! That is incredible. Thanks for sharing that.
It sounds like you learned alot from that book. Its great to hear! I should try and get my hands on a hold of that book... Keep up the great work! ~Gabriel |
