extending power supply cable
Is it possible to lengthen a power supply cable the small one that goes into the camera?
The genius that designed the power adapter for the Panasonic ux90/180 made it so it won't reach the ground when the camera is on a tripod. I'm getting tired of having use gaffers tape to hold the adapter to the leg of the tripod. Really annoying. |
Re: extending power supply cable
Simple, do an Ebay search for male and female plugs the same size and make one yourself. Either that or just cut the cable you have and splice in required length of cable.

Re: extending power supply cable
I use a velcro-type strap to hold short AC adapters to the leg of the tripod. You have to position it so it rests on some obstruction on the tripod leg so it doesn't slip down, but it's still quicker and easier than gaffers tape. On my tripod legs, the joint where it goes from a single section to a two-pole section makes a nice shelf to strap it securely.

It might not hurt to check the polarity and voltage with a meter before connecting to your camera... |

The other option is to splice in a length. I'm not keen on that because I don't want to introduce soldier connection in a cable that could fail from the stress of repeated wrapping/unwrapping to be put in camera bag pouch. |
Re: extending power supply cable
I strain relief all cables. Especially anything on a camera moving on a tripod head. These things are the coolest most versatile new cheap thing I have added to my kit lately. Lots of sizes and unlimited uses. They are like heavy duty pipe cleaners with a rubber non slip surface. They work on tripod legs. I also use them on my audio bag like piggin' strings. Faster and cleaner than gaff tape. Reusable forever.

Re: extending power supply cable
2 XLR 4 pin males, 2 XLR 4 pin females, and a length of two core flexible sheathed loudspeaker cable or .75mm cable. Male to female inserted into the existing cable, then use the other male and female to make an extension. Pins 1 and 2 and away you go.

We have made clip on holders that take us seconds to deploy. using some small plastic pipe clips, wide elastic and a bit of plywood. this allows us to clip a power supply to the leg of the tripod. and avoids a pile of cables on the floor. If you are interested I'll take some pictures.. These are the type of clips we use: https://www.marinesuperstore.com/dec...ks/maclow-clip |
