. . . what are the pair of cone-shaped do-hickeys on the front of this Arri?

Edit: Can't get the photo to upload. Anyhoo, I'm talking about what looks like a pair of matched cones facing forward, mounted at the front of an Arri on the set of Dallas Buyers Club. Mics? Sensors for remote follow focus? I feel like a dick for asking, but I hate not knowing. Thanks.
