Re: Where are the women??

Some might say that the women are busy working and don't have time to worry about how many men are posting on the board ;) My crew are all students and over that last 16 years it has changed from equal amounts of men and women, to all mostly men and also mostly women. I've had 2 female crew chiefs and they were awesome. Right now I have 6 guys and 4 gals on my crew.

Re: Where are the women??

50% or so of automobile owners and drivers are women. 99% or so of automobile forum members are men.

Men, for whatever reason, just seem to be more drawn to gear and technology, but that doesn't mean that women don't use the same gear and technology.

BTW, years ago I participated in an autocross event in San Diego. There was a woman there who drove a modified Porsche 914 with a small block V8. She took first overall. It wasn't even close. #respect

Depends on how big you are talking; blockbusters, pretty rare. But off the top of my head there are Ellen Kuras, Nancy Schrieber, Uta Briesewitz who have shot well-known features and TV shows. I know of several others helming network series at the moment. I've worked with many female directors, operators, sound mixers, camera assistants, grips and electrics.

I can't speak for all the other women who are clearly not here...

But I thought I'd at least say 'hi'. I have no idea why most production women I know don't visit forums. I can't stay away...

Then again, I am the only woman I know who is also a sci-fi fanatic (since the age of 8) and who spends more time geeking out over new gear than - well - pretty much anything else. So I may not be representative. Ahem.

I'm currently writing, directing, editing and handling live events.

My girlfriend is also a Sci-Fi fanatic ( major Trekkie ) and generally handy with a camera , although not into tech for its own sake .

Isn't it obvious?

If you've read the comments up to this point, you already have your answer.
