Digital Asset Management: Storage Size
Hello,
I just want to make an inquiry about file/asset management. What is the ideal storage capacity of a file server for a small media team? Here's our team's composition: video editor - 3 graphics - 2 audio - 2 office - 5 primary acquisition files: HDV/DV, m2t, mp4, QT | wav, mp3, PSD, Thanks. |
Re: Digital Asset Management: Storage Size
Hello,
I guess most are doing stand-alone systems. Can you refer me to a link or a resource about small-group, economy shared-storage solutions? At least I want to have some references when we meet and discuss wioth our IT team. Some stuff I need basic info: - storage size requirement. what is a good starter - bandwidth/speed requirements: say, 2 video editors, DV/HDV...how can we measure? Thanks. ...BTW, meeting with our IT support in 2 hours ! |
Re: Digital Asset Management: Storage Size
I have a book that I am reading called Video Systems in an IT Environment (Kovalick, Focal Press) that explains these issues in depth.
Are you editing online or offline? Are your workstations going to be working on the files directly, simultaneously (in which case you will need a version control system and bandwidth)? There are many questions that require thought for each implementation. |
Re: Digital Asset Management: Storage Size
Thanks Jordan.
Yeah, we pretty much ingest assets directly, so I guess that's an online procedure. We are definitely praying for the ideal, true-collaborative system like Avid's or even Editshare. Currently, we use a regular file server system. We still have our editors ingest individually. |
