Using SDHC as permanent archive
Now that SDHC are quite cheap are they a viable option to use as an archive - like putting a tape on a shelf?
Are there any potential problems with them losing data, getting corrupted over time if not used etc.? Do they break or break down? Or are they safer than hard drives? Steve |
Good question. They've already proven themselves tough enough to tolerate being dunked in the ocean at several hundred feet. But as for longevity? Is there a way to do an accelerated test as is done with photographic prints?

They are still rather expensive compared to other storage options, and limited by their small storage capacity.

True David, but I tend to work on Digibeta prices, being £15 for a 30 minute tape, I consider that reasonable. And a Transcend card 16gb will give about an hour at 35mb/s and costs £40, so it's not far off and I do think that is acceptable.
