Dv in/out
I am using the ATI AIW 8500 with the dv port and I understand that the dv signal is two way ,so I have used the canon xl-1s to put the dv signal into the computer but about from the computer back to the camera ,is that possible.
seems the xl1s manual talks about using vhs-s or composite from a vcr back to the camcorder and not to hvae the dv cable plugged in as it will not recognize the signal. I would like to add graphics back to the dv tape but i guses one could just edit the *.avi created by premiere . Comments |
I'm having difficulty interpreting your objective. As near as I can discern, you want to "add graphics" to footage shot on your XL1s and then send the resulting footage back to miniDV tape on your camera?

It is possible to record a DV signal via FireWire on the XL1s, but not the XL1. Instructions are in the manual. I don't have mine handy, but it's around page 60 and they call it DV dubbing.
If you are trying to insert, or overlay graphics using the XL1s it is not possible. That is the function of a NLE like Premiere. Do your project in Premiere and then record it to tape via FireWire. Jeff |
The XL-1 can easily record via firewire as well as the XL-1s. I have used an XL-1 several times to get video into and out of a computer via firewire. And, you can dub between two XL-1 cameras as well. You just don't have the automatic start/stop controls of the newer XL-1s.

Sorry for the confusion, I was thinking analog in. The XL1 was indeed record via FireWire.
