Canon MX150i?
 

Thinking about getting one of hese for a second cam as they have manual focus ring, and hot shoe. Any ideas on this cam or any alternatives? ie trv18

Over here in the States, that cam is known as the Optura 20. It is a perfectly adequate, inexpensive (but not too cheap) camcorder. I'm not sure what the Sony equivalent is, but it's a decent little camcorder for the money. Hope this helps,
