Carry On Bag
Can anyone suggest a good carry on bag for my XL1s with fuzzy eq, mini mount, isolator, and ma200? I've read the articles on the watchdog site but there have been newer cases since then and am wondering if anyone knows?
Thanks |
I've heard good reports about the Lowepro Commercial AW DV model. I use a hard case, so I haven't tried it, but it looks pretty good. Some others will likely weigh in.

does anyone have this one?
It's a portabrace model # CO-OB
heres the description New Canon XL-1S w/monochrome viewfinder, MA-200, large batteries & wireless mics, mic clip Lightwave MM-1 does it fit in carry on? do i have to break the camera down? |
The portabace website pretty much describes it as a carry-on bag. It also has viewfinder protector that's appears to be in the fully mounted position.
If you haven't already checked this out: http://www.portabrace.com/Details/CO/CO-OBdetail.htm On the site they also say that, "The overall allowable size for hand luggage is currently 45" (L+W+H) on most airlines..." Can anyone confirm if that's still the case? Portabrace makes great bags, for all types of gear. I have 3 of them; monitor, production, small dv case. |

In some cases, particularly for overseas flights, if it doesn't fit in the "test jig", it goes into baggage. Here at Sea-Tac, they're not all the same. It's not like shipping UPS -- length/width is critical. Best to check ahead with the airline. However, common shapes that match similar carry-ons will likely be OK. |
Yeah, I haven't traveled with my full rig since 9/11. I've usually been able to make arrangements for a slightly larger case. Now, from what I've experienced they don't make any concessions or compromises.

I use the Lowepro Photo Trekker Classic. The camera and all the extras fit in easily without breaking it down. I do suggest not travelling with the EVF in place though, it's a weak link and easily damaged(this is from experience).

If anyone has had their hands on the Lowepro AW DV model I mentioned earlier, please chime in. My hard case could withstand a humvee tire, but won't make it as a carry-on and I'd rather not go the backpack option. I haven't been able to find one of the AW models to fondle here in the Seattle area.

case manufactuers
uh wouldnt it be a good idea if they would list the exact specs on their websites? like the internal AND external size of the freaking case?
|
united
i called united airlines and they said their max carry-on size is 14''X9''X22''. The Lowepro DV is 17''X9''X9''. Does anyone know if this bag works with the xl1s with minimount, and ma200? or what the dimensions of the portabrace are?
