DV to Beta SP
What is the recommended set up to output my dv from FCP to Beta SP(beta recorder)? I am using a Mac Pro.
|
I use a Decklink card, going to the Betacam deck via component connectors.
There's an RS-422 port which provides frame-accurate deck control. You'll need to get the PCI-e version of the card. The Decklink Extreme is a good choice, since it provides SD and HD I/O. |
Thanks for the info. So all I need is the card and connectors? Also, what is the difference between the UVW 1800 and 1400? Are there any other decks to consider? Thanks.

RS-232 vs. RS-422 control for one. You want RS-422.
You MAY want to try and find a BVW-75 used. The things are TANKS and address all four available audio tracks (longitudinal and AFM hi-fi tracks) instead of just the longitudinal tracks the UVW series addresses. |
Quote:
-- Two three-conductor bnc cables to get component in and out. -- A 12" BNC cable to jump from video reference-in to the y-in to sync the blackburst of the deck with the card. -- Four XLR cables to connect audio in and out to the Decklink card or to your mixer. -- A nine-pin RS-422 "straight through" cable for deck control. -- A Y/C or composite video cable for monitoring the deck. If you want an on-screen menu for the deck you'll have to use a composite cable. I haven't used a 1400 so I can't say what the differences might be. |
bringing up old topic
Thanks for the info in this thread and over at the cow. I think I have it now. We purchased the Uvw 1800 and a decklink extreme hd card. Ok, now I am trying to hook my panasonic vtr into the card for capture. Its my understanding, that I will have to remove the input BNC's from the beta sp and use a BNC to RCA adapter with the rca's plugged into the vtr. Does this sound right? Thanks.
