Is it just me, or does this seam very unpractical and unstable? I mean, I can see making a DIY follow focus, something that simply rotates the focus on your lens, but something that is in charge of storing data? That seams like a very meticulous process that leaves little room for mistakes.

Someone posted a DIY firestore type device a long time ago. Basically it consisted of a touch screen laptop type device that was run by Linux I believe. I'm pretty sure the hard drive wasn't to large.

So essentially is like lugging around a lap top hooked directly to your camera?

That's the one I saw on here a long time ago. Maybe there is another option I don't know of.
