building a new PC for editing...
Hey guys!
I'm in the process of building a new PC for editing. I'm looking at the AMD chipset and I'm torn between the Athlon 64 Dual Core FX or the Athlon 64 X2 5200. THe FX seems to be engineered for video rendering, video encoding and decoding and the like. I was wondering if I it's worth the extra money and if I will notice a considerable difference between the FX or the X2. What do you guys think? Sorry if I should have posted this on the PC editing forum. Wasn't quite sure where to put it. Thanks in advance guys! |
speed wars
If you are interested in speed, consider the Intel Core 2 Duo or quad core, if the software will take advantage of it.

I'm not interested in Intel. Thanks for the response though!

You might not be interested in Intel, but the Core Duo solutions are faster at prices that match. You must already have the parts. Got to run out the door, so no time to hunt for it. Check Tom's Hardware as they do benchmarks that include encoding as a task.

Calling all AMD techies only....
Roger,
This might have been a better heading. And sorry, I'm not interested in AMD, so I can't help you. |

Here is a link to a recent Tom's review. Looks like equal X2's are faster than FXs. I found another that has the FX-7x series faster, except in some encoding fields. Check out the power on the FX though. You need a very beefy PSU. http://techreport.com/reviews/2007q2...0/index.x?pg=1 |
test!
Sopmeone should do an unbiased test between the two. for these applications. I have both AMD and Intel boxes and couldn't care much less which is better. But, if I was going to buy something new I would like to find out what the quad core units can actually do, and the dual quads as well, alongside to the AMD solutions, when used with add on cards.
