video PC
I want to build my new PC but dont know which CPU + motherboard to buy.Which would be best.I don't need really latest technology, mainly for video rendering.
I heard goo about a new Intel Conroe, which is probably expensive. I heard good things about a AMD 64 X2 4800 which has dropped the price. Could you recomend me something?? |

This article might be a good starting point: http://www.videoguys.com/DIY4.html The suggested AMD combo that seems to have been the winner system ("Green") you can now get a bit cheaper from Newegg. My suggestion would be to invest the difference in a large external (Seagate?) HDD. Waiting for the Conroe based new system, called "Liquid Vaporizer", is a tempting option. That Intel CPU should be released in August or September. But as Chris proves, a fast HD system can be assembled right away. |
I'm using a lower end AMD64 3200, and 1 gig of ram, and still hack through HDV pretty well. Like I've said before, it really isn't much different than editing DV on my old pre-Pentium system. A little slow at times, but we chug along just fine, thank you very much ;) PP2 handles HDV natively, with no real issues.
I would also like to recommend Abit boards. They are very reliable, and Abit has pretty decent support rescources. |

In my case I use Avid Xpress, running only DV for now. Strange as is may seem I think it may be a bit slower than my old AMD 7, which unfortunately was too heat-climbing and died. But speed is a problem for editing and/or rendering, particularly in HDV, so I am considering assembling a faster system based on dual-core CPUs. |
