converting mov file to avi file

Does anyone here have a quick way of converting avi to mov and vice versa? My friend uses apple but I've got a pc and we sometimes swap material. He hs to render the files which is rather cumbersome. Is there a quick way?

Not that I know of. You will just have to render the material to convert it to/from mov/avi, whether it is on your end or his.
