Is the firewire in Audigy card good enough for capture?
 

I'd like to be able to transfer dv from my camcorder to my PC but I am out of spare PCI slots. Thus I'm planning to change my current SB Live soundcard and put in an Audigy (1st generation) instead to aquire a firewire port.

Question is, is this card good enough for dv capture? Since it's all digital I shouldn't lose quality should I?

Or what might be the drawbacks compared to a a firewire-only card from for example Adaptec?

Ya know I was wondering the same thing. Once I pull my Pinnacle DV500 I'll only be left with my Audigy for capture. As long as it OHCI compliant it should be fine.
Anyone on here use an audigy as their primary IEEE?

Some people use them with no problems. Others cannot use them. The only thing you can do is try it and see if it works. If it doesn't, then add a standard OHCI card (such as pyro or SIIG). Any standard OHCI card should work as long as you don't have other conflicts (such as IRQ's...)

I use it; it's fine. Just don't try to capture to a firewire hard drive on the same interface.

I'm using the fireWire on my Audigy2. Works fine. Not sure about the Audigy1 cards though, I don't think the SB1394 specs have changed, they made them OHCI compliant.

I just captured 13 gigs of raw DV with 0 dropped frames with my Audigy 1. Works well.

my sound card has a SB1394 slot, is it the same as IEEE 1394? can i use it to transfer my dv films to the computer?
