GoPro should have applied a recording timeout shutdown rather than a thermal cutout for these Hi -performance modes
By doing that they would definitely have disappointed their hardcore fanbase that use the gopro's in extreme conditions where overheating is not an issue, they just want to continue recording as long as the battery last while they are skydiving, skiing, biking, kayaking so gopro can use their material to create those awesome demo's that make us all want to get one eventhough we plan to use it as a locked off safetycam at a wedding to find out it overheats in the sun :)

Yes now the GoPro camera has "crossed" over to uses other than POV action camera footage, it's expected to perform in all situations. GoPro are exploiting this with clever marketing, just watch the new Promo video, very little action based sports footage included.

The new Panasonic Lx100 has 4k time limited to 15mins, GoPro probably should have done the same. Not many people going to use 4k for POV action footage anyway, too much rolling shutter jello.

It also shuts down while using 2.7K mode...

Any try Switronix GoPro 4 Battery Eliminator?
it mentions it doesn't produce heat because no battery attach to the gopro

Maybe it will solve the overheat issue

You do not need the Switronix product to power the Hero 4 Black externally with no battery in the camera. Just take out the battery, use the included usb cable and attach it to the camera and a power source (at least 1.5 Amps), even a battery pack used to charge cell phones if its got the amps.
