Erasing/Degaussing miniDV
Any ideas on the advisability, procedure for erasing mini-dv with a magnetic degausser?
Before the thread resorts to all the advice on not reusing tapes - yes, I know - but there are times when an old "junk" tape is all that is needed to fit the situation. Thanks |
I believe there are special miniDV tape erasers around, not sure
how good they would do their job. You can always try recording a black video signal (ie, lens cap on) and disconnect the mic. and then record that over your tape. |
I am erasing tapes in magnetic blanker bought years ago on sale. It was used for erasing old U-matic tapes on one TV station and they decided that they don't need one any more. Of course it can erase all kind of tapes. Procedure: I put tapes inside, switch magnet on, then put tapes on other side and switch on again. It works fine, but I wouldn't suggest to play with used tapes for any serious work. New tape is sometimes cheapest solution.
