Avid Media Composer 3.5.4
1 Attachment(s)
As of now Media Composer supports JVC's which use the Sony codec with the new AMA feature.
Those are very good news for all Avid editors. |
Yes. It was actually working before but I guess now its official.

As it happens, I'm editing files from a Sony EX3 camera on an Avid Media Composer 3.5.1 on a Mac. But, I used the clip manager to convert the .MP4 files for the Avid. Does this mean, for both the EX3 and the HM700/HM100 that these files will import directly into Avid MC 3.5.4? I would simply install the update and try it for myself, but I dare not do an upgrade in the middle of a project.

Yes Don. For all intents and purposes the Avid should not be able to tell the difference between Mp4 files from either the EX1/EX3 or HM100/700.
Have you tried using AMA with v3.5.1? |
I apologize. I didn't phrase my question correctly. My HM700, without the add-on adaptor, produces .mov files. Does the latest Avid MC see both .mov and .mp4 files as XDCAM EX files and will import either natively in the newest version? As I mentioned, I'd try it but dare not upgrade in the middle of a project.

No AMA won't work with .MOV. From what I can tell it is designed to only look in the BPAV folder for .MP4 structures.
Since your Avid is on Mac you will just need the open-source XDCAM component for quicktime to work with your .mov but they will have to be converted to a DNX or similar codec, which I assume is what you have been doing. |
Hi Tim, hi Donald,
when you work on a PC you can use a little Help-Tool, it works with MP4 and .mov and is called "MP4 to MPG" Here is the downloadlink Programme - www.mik-digital.de http://www.mik-digital.de/tool/MP4toMPGv3.exe Eric |
Eric,
Thanks a million for the link to the MPG-converter. Brilliant little utility! Regards from Dänemark... Peter |
