Test Drive of HD100
 

Today I went and played with an HD100 at a local dealer.

As I was playing with the menu I noticed that the camera had a choice between 50i/25P and 60i/30P. I looked at the sales guy and asked if the camera did both Pal and NTSC and he said yes, that it wasn't documented by JVC.

Is this true? I thought that the camera was NTSC only in the US?

Otherwise I was greatly impressed with the camera, and he had one in stock with the rebate coupon that I can purchase if I want to.

The cam only does 50p or 25p in HDV modes...50P live out the component, 25p to tape.

In SD modes, the North American model only does NTSC

Thanks for the clarification. I never knew that it could do 25p in HDV I thought that the cams were only NTSC models and PAL models for both SD and HD.

NTSC has no applicability to high-def, nor does PAL. Those are strictly analog standard-def television terms.

All HD100s do 24p, 25p, and 30p in high-def.
They also all do 576/50p and 480/60p.

None of those are NTSC or PAL.

US units record NTSC DV at either 24p or 60i.
European/Oceanic units record PAL DV at either 25p or 50i.
No HD100 does both NTSC and PAL.

I have a Sony Z1 at my office and it was touted as being both PAL and NTSC HD capable. I guess the proper term would be PAL and NTSC SD and 1080/50i and 1080/60i capable.

I didn't realize that the JVC could do 25P. I thought that was only possible with the HD101.

The only difference between the HD100 ("E" model) and the HD101 is that the HD101 is firewire in as well as out.
