How does one utilize the user 1 user2 user3 buttons on the camera? These are for saving picture profiles yes? How does one save and calibrate these buttons?

No you save picture profiles in the scene menus. You can assign quick variables to the user 1,2 and 3 buttons using the switch mode menu. eg you can assign one button to bars and another to B.Stretch 2 or a preset colour temp (whatever it is for that profile). There are a limited but useful array of presets.
