100U does 480@30/60 standard, the 101E does 525@25/50. HD modes are identical. Apparently there is some arcane tax in Europe on video recorders that doesn't apply to playback only units; hence the European split personality. |
To add to John's excellent response:
There are three models out. The 100U, the 100E, and the 101E. The 100U is the USA model, it has NTSC DV 24P and 60i recording. The 100E is the European model, instead of NTSC it offers PAL DV 25p and 50i recording. The 100E has firewire output only, no input. The 100U and the 100E both support all the same MPEG-2 modes, so both do 720/24p, 720/25p, 720/30p, 576/50p and 480/60p. The 101E is another European model, with identical features to the 100E, except that it has firewire input as well as output, and costs about $300 more. |
thanks for that guys
but im goin to be abit more of a pain in the rear end barry say that there is a 4th model, its the hd100j and its the one im actually buying on monday, why u say? because i live in japan, so hopefully its got f/w in and out. thanks guys |
Hadn't heard of a 100J. But yes, it would seem likely that it would have firewire input, as IINM, only the European models of various DV cameras have ever been restricted to firewire-out only.
