Fair Price for Used GY-HD100?
I am considering selling my GY-HD100U (A). It has low hours but the firewire port does not work. This camera would be great for someone who captures footage from another camera or a deck. Or has one and would like a second for multi-cam shooting or as a backup. I am thinking of selling because I would like to get a DVX100B to match my DVC30 Panasonic on multi-cam shoots. The JVC is a great camera but I am partial to Panasonic's overall look and feel and don't shoot much HD.
Thanks, Edward |
eBay is a very good indicator of the value of used video cameras, usually. There are often one or two listed there. Currently, the going rate for a good condition unit (one with a functioning FW port) is a shade under $3K USD.

Ebay is of course the most expensive way to buy/sell gear. The newer HD110 is selling new for $2,999 at BH and they are reputable. blown firewire? I would be think you would be lucky to sell it for $1,800. More likely a lot less actually with a blown firewireport. That repair is I think $700 from JVC. At least that's what I remember someone saying they paid.
Used wholesale for a top condition HD110 was $1,850 the other day when I checked at BH, so they can sell it around $2,300 or so. |
Someone in the private classifieds is trying to sell an HD100U with a blown firewire. They're down to $1700 with no takers, and that includes a few nice accessories.

I've saved hundreds if not thousands buying used from ebay. |
I agree, I've saved lots of money buying smaller gear on eBay, and easily selling the stuff I don't need. However, even I don't have the stomach for buying a $2k+ item on eBay!
Perhaps he was referring to the listing fees. |
