Very interesting, Scott, about what you said about the rush of having an audience see your work. I should probably tell my story. I just finished law school, and at the school we had an annual musical production which I produced and music directed my final year. I also happened to be the film director, basically because I was the only one with a good DV camera (GL2) and editing ability. We decided to combine all sorts of multimedia for this live show, especially movies. One scene, for example, featured a person on stage having a conversation with a person on film. It worked out extremely well and the audience LOVED it. And it was a pretty big screen, and it was in DV.
So maybe we couldn't have shown an entire movie in DV on a big screen and had it stand on its own, but combining that one medium with all the others (live acting, singing, etc.) made for a wonderful experience for cast and audience. It certainly was a rush (and a fear!) to have the audience react to the first movies I'd ever made, and it was a load of fun. But we thought outside the box for that project and I think that's what made it the most fun. |
