GR HD1 vs JY HD10
General Question:
Has there been anymore information on the possible internal differences between the GR HD1 and the JY HD10? There was some speculation or rumor that the edge sharpness on the HD10 is slightly reduced in order to reduce compression noise? Has anyone heard of any other possible performance differences? I’m trying to decide between the two models and this may help me get off the dime. So far, the increased resolution for the viewfinder, 180K-pixel for the HD10 vs. 113K-pixel for the HD1, may be enough for me to except the approximately $300 price difference between the two models. The XLR microphone adapter and color bar generator on the HD10 are items I don’t need now but may grow to appreciate later. But if I knew that there were performance differences as well, it would definitely help me make up my mind. Thanks, |
XLR inputs are pretty important if you ever want to use serious microphones and don't want to pay for a separate recorder.

Yeah, but remember it's just an XLR adapter that still plugs into the body as a mini-stereo plug (according to reports I've read, I haven't handled the camera yet). It's a solution, certainly, but not a terribly well engineered one. I'd probably still shoot with this camera as a synch-sound rig using a slate and a separate audio recorder, but that's just me. |
Thanks Peter and Robert,
I believe your right about the XLR adapter plugging into the mini-stereo port, Robert. I don't know if this is a weak link or not, but at least you can use the higher quality XLR microphones. In any case I have ordered the HD10. I figured that it may be possible to get the XLR adapter for a HD1 at a later time, but I wouldn't be surprised if it cost $200-300 as accessory. However, I would still be curious about any other known performance differences between the two models. |
