FCP - 14 frame sliver mystery
I'm capturing HDV with the setting that creates a new file every time the camera is switched on/off during recording.
The last HDV tape I captured chopped up one take with a weird 14 frame sliver in the middle (didn't turn the camera off so shouldn't have been a new file at all). Normal take up until frame 15:45:22 Black frame at 15: 45:23 Odd 14 frame excerpt began at 15:45:22 Ended at 15:46:09 Black frame at 15:46:10 Next file starts at 15:46:09 And continues as per normal. Anybody have any ideas what might be going on? I do seem to have been plagued with glitches lately. I have just sorted (touch wood) a problem with seven second gaps in my capturing (see earlier post). I shortened the preroll to one second from five after advice. Could this be source of prob? Have just found another file with 2 black frames at the end. I am inputting with a Sony v1 (HDV) into an imac with external LaCie drive. Any suggestions appreciated. |
I BELIEVE what is happening is that the MPEG-2 stream isn't written properly at a start/stop by the camera (I've noticed this especially when the camera has been shut down between shots OR the head have spun down between shots - usually after 5 minutes) and FCP "sees" a "corrupted" MPEG stream and breaks the file up.
Again, this is merely speculation but I get a lot of these at start/stops. Hope this helps. |
