What do you mean by all day (6am to ???). Might be interested if you don't mind having a 40 something fat man helping out :).
|
I work near the Foggy Bottom metro. My schedule is a bit varied, though that's probably not unusual on this forum. Maybe we could manage a post work "shop talk" sometime. Barry, are you downtown?
|
Thank you kindly!
|
Hi, Joe:
We'll begin at 6:00 a.m. outdoors, move inside about 10:00 a.m., and should wrap up by 6:00 p.m. Any help during the shoot would be appreciated. Please email me if you'd like details. Thanks for your consideration. |

The footage is for a promo that I am putting together for possible series, and I need to stick a few shots of my talent in the video to give a sense of what the show will be like. -->>> There is a highway that runs the length of Long Island and it is known by commuters as the world's largest parking lot! |
nancy what are you shooting with? i might be able to come out and give you a hand. send me an email with some details. thanks
|
Hi, Kris. Nice to meet you after seeing your posts here. We're shooting with the XL1s. We also have a back-up XL1. We're pretty well equipped, except for *people.* :-) I'll contact you off-line with more details.

Maybe we could start a DC/Northern VA user group? There is one in Bethesda, but that is quite a trip for me and others. Any ideas?
|
I've been to the one in Bethesda once. I think I would have an easier time making downtown immediately after work rather than evening in the suburbs even though Bethesda is not that hard for me to get to.
What does it take to start something like that? Find a room somewhere and put an announcement on the boards? A different list I'm on does lunch/happy hour sorts of gatherings for sub-groups, which keeps it less formal and avoids the finding a room part. |
Sounds great... I am in Mount Pleasant, which is just the next area up from Adam's Morgan. I have enough space at my house or office to get a decent sized group together.... The house is roomier, and has the TV, the office has the computer....
I am definitely up for a monthly get together ... show films, talk shop, I'm all over it... |
sounds good. Where is Mt Pleasant?
I bet we could find some space in the DC metro area that would be good for everybody. Hopefull near a metro stop. I could probably get my hands on a portable lcd or dlp projector, and I have a laptop fast enough to show dvd and/or Quicktime/WindowsMedia stuff. Don't have a DV VTR though. I could put together a portable digital theater and bring it to where ever. Even though I use Vegas, I'd prefer a group that concentrated on actually making movies and/or discussing them, independent of platform or software. |
I agree on platform/software independent. I think I'd end up in a really small group if I were only looking for people who did exactly what I do (Premiere 6.5 for web only delivery). Besides process and aesthetics make for more interesting discussions anyway imo.
|
The closest main intersection to my house is probably 16th & Columbia... I am about a 10 minute walk from the Columbia Heights Metro...
|
As a DC newbie, where is Columbia Heights? Say in relation to Union Station (I think that is the main metro station in DC).
|
http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm
Here's the metro map. It's the green line toward greenbelt if you're coming from downtown. PS: most people would say metro center is the main metro station, Union station has the metro run through it (red line only) and is the main amtrak/marc/vre station. |
>>PS: most people would say metro center is the main metro station, Union station has the metro run through it (red line only) and is the main amtrak/marc/vre station.
<< Thanks, as I said, I'm a DC newbie. looks like I can take the blue or orange from Rosslyn to L'Enfant plaza then take the green right up to Columbia Heights. |
I am all for the platform independent discussions also.... the technical issues can be resolved through text... the face to face time I think is better spent on the artistic/inspiration issuess...
I'm excited. Barry |
Roanoke, VA - Grip/Camera Operator Needed
I've been learning a lot in the last year, working on a music docementary. One thing I've learned is that I could probably get better footage if I had at least 2 people to run 3 cameras instead of one person running all of them.
I'm looking for some one familiar with the Sony TRV 950 and live music. The person will run the camera during shows and handle a mic boom for pre show B-roll shots as well as a variety of on-set duties such as moving props or setting up equipment. The next shoot will be in Charlottesville VA 4-23-04 and two more in May, 5th and 29th. More to be scheduled. I've been working on the project for the last year and would like to find a person who is willing to work for little money and the experience, as well as a listing in the movie credits. Must be in Roanoke VA or able to get here or to the shoots. The band is a rock band which plays from NYC to GA and in between. The band's web site is indecision.com and a sample movie trailer can be seen at daveperry.net/pages/movie_trailer.html |
Need Shooters in Texas, Utah, Abu Dhabi....
I've got a couple of long term projects that require some sooting in some varied locations. We're not going to be able to cover all of the locations because of the scheduling overlaps, so I was hoping to find some community members that might be able to do some pickups in some pretty varied locales.
Right now I'm looking at Abu Dhabi, Houston Texas, Salt Lake City Utah, and some possible Pacific Rim locations. I'd like to find a few Xl1s shooters so that we can accurately match setups, but due to the variety of locations, I'd also like to hear from DVX users. Hey we're all one big family after all. Thanks, |
What exactly do you need in Utah? E-mail me with specifics.

<<What exactly do you need in Utah? E-mail me with specifics.>>
Hi Rob. I planned on getting into more specifics here depending on the response. One project is a film on the Olympics, another is for an interactive DVD project for an international client. All of the shooting I'd be looking for would be easy setup, no sound, no talent, B-roll, background pickup. The Salt Lake shoot would be 2 locations fairly close together. How close are you? What are you shooting with? If I don't find anyone, could you run to Abu Dhabi <g>? |
Check your e-mail please.

Recruiting, Web Development Team
We are currently recruiting graphic/web designing personnel to design motion graphics, logos, website/web store and magazine for a new company based in the world of Indi film making. We are offering deferred payment in the beginning to temporary personnel and even partial ownership of the company to a select few dedicated people who will help make this project succeed.
We are looking lead designers to manage a team and also intermediate designers who wish to gain experience working under a professional. This will be no small undertaking, we will begin on research that may last up to 2 months as we find out what can and cannot be done. Development time is yet to be determined however the goal is to have the Web Site officially open within 6 months. Please Send Inquiries, resumes, links to previous work, and all questions or comments to: Kris.mallory@prodigy.net NOTE: this was posted on a few of the "pro" boards but i want everyone to have the opertunity to work on something big. so please feel free to apply or repost this msg on other forums where you think there may be some interested people. thank you. |
I'm inclined to say 'less talk more action' or the idea will fizzle away before we've done anything about it. You know, along the lines of pick a day at random and make it regular - like the third Tuesdays (or any day that's not the wammo night). But in reality between my regular job and a freelance contract I've got at the moment I don't have a free evening between now and Memorial Day. So while I'd hate to see the idea fizzle, I can't be the one to push it forward.
|
OK... action...
I am already having a party on May 1... it is a cast/crew dinner for one project including a showing for that, and later it becomes an open-mic type thing with songwriters (which I do alot) ... I am showing two new films at that party, and any one in the area is welcome to come by and watch or show a short film if they have one.... Email me if you are interested... As for a discussion-type meeting... what is better for people? Sunday afternoon? Tuesday night? Either works for me... I'd say lets get something going in the next three weeks... BTW, I am still looking for more crew for the 48 hour film fest May 7-9... any takers? Would love an experienced sound person, light person, PA, .... but would take anyone eager with attention to detail and positive disposition... We have put together a really good group for that... it will be fun. |
hey barry, don't forget about us baltimore folk! i would also like to come to one of these meetings and i have a few film student friends who might want to come down for a meet and greet as well.
|
Barry:
Count me in for Tuesdays and for May 1... and, if you like, I'll bring our first short film for viewing. |
I don't know about May 1, might be down in FL that weekend, but Tuesdays are alright for me. Just pick one or two each month.
Maybe start a yahoo group? I know the adverts are annoying, and you have to create an account...but its free and easy to maintain. Up side is we can upload photos of different projects (within limits). Down side is poor thread options in the message queue. Another way would be to find a board (set up like dvifno) that would give us our own forum and place to put small pictures. I know the cow or some other site dedicated to indy film might do that. Any other suggestions are welcome. I'm just trying to get ideas rolling. |
I'm down in Richmond VA, but often travel to D.C. on weekends and could probably attend an event or two.
I also have a small collection of toys to bring to the party and am interested in working with a group of like-minded, dedicated members on their projects and maybe hopefully enlisting their help on some of my projects as well. I'll make sure to keep an eye on this thread to see what develops. Hope I get a chance to meet you guys soon! -Timothy Brown |
Texas checking in here.
Have a GL2, which matched the XL1s pretty well. |
OK, so i'll sweeten the pot.
I'd be willing to start working for free on the right project. I.E. -- I'd like to learn more about CC, Scopes, Avid Unity, Film Editing on NLE's. Thanks, J |

Hands needed in Ventura, CA
I am in Ventura, CA getting ready to shoot my first short film. I write and direct and can operate the camera, mics, etc but would prefer to work with others who are interested in projects like this. Right now it's for fun/film festival kind of stuff so there's no $$ involved.
I am using a Canon XL1s and have some decent audio equipment and some lighting equipment. Anyone who is interested in camera work, audio, or just helping out to get a cool end product let me know. All of the pre-production has been completed (permits, props, etc.) I am having auditions on 4/17 and 4/24 so I should have my cast assembled by the end of April, hoping to shoot in May. Thanks, Rick |
Hi Brian !
I live little too far from Keys (Dade/Broward border, but who knows !? Maybe someday, maybe some job ... Greetings ! |
I remember being lost on the way to the Keys many years ago. My cycle developed severe issues going over the bridge to Big Duck Key, causing me to have to walk it back into Homestead.
Some day, I'll actually make it down there! |
Would anyone object to meeting in Rosslyn? I could look for meeting space (no I don't know of any yet, but I'll look if all are interested.)
Rosslyn is downtown Arlington, just across the Key bridge from Georgetown. Several hotels and lots and lots of office space abound. There is also a convenient metro stop with direct access to several restaurants. Plenty of paid parking options too (meters are free after 6 pm). Let me know folks. Joe C. |
I have no objection to crossing the river, I would just rather not pay for space if we can avoid it...
