Best Export?
 

Hi

Normally I don't send finished film to other editors, so I don't know whats is the best export options.
I'm about to send a few minutes to a client that is editing in FCP. He asked for HD apple ProRes 4:2:2 HQ. My media source is DSLR (7D). what would be the best export option?

While the newest Edius does "support" Prores, all that means is that it can import it natively, so you can lay Prores files on the timeline and start editing, no transcoding needed (some gamma issues remain though).

Unfortunately export to Prores is not supported.

If you need to send the best possible quality over to FCP, your best option is probably uncompressed AVI.

unfortunately apple do not allow windows users to create prores files from windows, which is a bit silly since the only ones benefiting would be apple users

we have our own codecs with same quality such as Canopus HQ and HQX, but apple do not support these

Anton, what would you suggest? uncompressed AVI gets really big...

try Avid DNxHD codec; Mac & PC versions. ISO standard, high quality, and up to 10-bit 440 Mbps templates available.

Exporting from a non-Avid product:
Export a movie at a size of 1920 x 1080 (1080i/p HD), 1280 x 720 (720p HD), or 1440 x 1080 (DNxHD-TR 1080i/p) for optimal quality.
Alpha: This codec supports alpha channels.

print to file, XDCAM, enable conversion, choose 1920x1080 25mbps with the correct frame rate matching your timeline and give the Mac user the MXF file, works for me, providing you send them a link to the MXF workflow in FCP
