Audio for a mpg
I have inserted a mpg file into FCP project but the sound has been lost, any thoughts.
Thanks for the help. Kipp |
I'm sure someone will come up with a better response, but the skinny is that FCP doesn't like importing compressed Mpeg 2 files. Generally, Mpeg2 files are not good for editing but playback. If you absolutely have to then you'll probably use a ripper. Try HandBrake or VisualHub.

Kip,
Multiplexed MPEG formats are not native edit formats supported by FCP. Multiplexed, or Muxing, is the process by which the audio and video streams (and whatever else) are combined into the the final, single, data stream. The upshot is that although FCP can see the video, it cannot see the audio whilst it remains in that format. Simplest solution is to use a free utilty, such as MPEG Streamclip, to "demux" the file first ... or better yet, use the same program to transcode the file into an altogether more suitable edit codec, such as DV etc Cheers Andy |
